2023 Great Fish Challenge

We are proud to be again selected to participate in the Great Fish Community Giving Challenge. This Whitefish Community Foundation event provides a fundraising platform and makes great things possible for Flathead Valley non-profits. Glacier Nordic has participated every year in the Challenge. The Great Fish has provided us with the funds needed to buy our ski shop and rental equipment, put our shop on wheels, develop a new trailhead, buy a new GNST van and buy grooming equipment.

In past years we’ve been raising funds to build a grooming equipment storage building at the Big Mountain Trailhead.  The new 1,600-square-foot equipment storage building at the Big Mountain Trailhead will be complete for Winter 2022-23. The new building will provide storage for our snowcat groomer and other grooming equipment and rental equipment. Currently, Big Mountain Nordic Trail grooming equipment is stored outside in Winter, given the busy Big Mountain Road, and maintenance work is difficult or impossible in cold temps. Equipment is moved from our groomed trails to outside off-season storage, making it subject to wear and tear and costs to move and store. The new building will provide secure, year-round indoor storage for equipment and provide a heated area for maintenance.

Donate and help us fulfill our mission of instilling a love of cross-country skiing.  The Great Fish Challenge will kick off on August 10, 2023.

THANK YOU, DONORS!

Thank you, donors and Whitefish Community Foundation- in 2022, we raised nearly $43,630 through the Great Fish Challenge and received an $11,200 matching grant from the Whitefish Community Foundation for a total of $54,830.

How the Challenge Works

This charitable giving campaign is completely managed by Whitefish Community Foundation. It processes all donations, designating 100% of your donation dollars to Glacier Nordic or any other non-profit you choose. For each dollar you donate, Whitefish Community Foundation will award an additional percentage match on the first $20,000 we raise. Over the past five years, the match has ranged from 48% to 53%.

The Great Fish Community Challenge runs August 10 –September 15, 2023.
