We are raising funds to purchase a new snowmobile and ginzu groomer to improve grooming at our trails at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course and on Big Mountain. Funding will also be used for construction of a new trail head at Lookout Ridge on Big Mountain and a cross country skiing access trail to Haskill Basin in partnership with Whitefish Legacy Partners.
Glacier Nordic is proud to have again been selected for participation in the Great Fish Challenge. This Whitefish Community Foundation event provides a fundraising platformand makes great things possible for 40 Flathead Valley non-profits. The Great Fish has provided us with the funds needed to buy our ski shop and rental equipment, put our shop on wheels and start to develop the new trail head.
Earlier and faster! We want to add a new set of grooming equipment to our quiver. This will provide us with the ability to have two groomers running simultaneously on the golf course (or the mountain) and back-up equipment for when a snowmobile is in the shop (it happens every winter!) Total cost $18,000 for a Skandic 900 wide track and a Ginzu groomer.
Parking, bathrooms and more moderate access! Together with Legacy Partners we are building a new trail head and access trail to the Big Mountain Nordic Trails. We still need to fund $12,000 of the $50,000 we have committed to to the estimated total costs of $100,000. The trail head will will be on the north side of Lookout Ridge on an easement provided to the City of Whitefish by Whitefish Mountain Resort. It will include a large parking lot, permanent restroom, kiosk and space for a future grooming shed. The new 1/2 mile connector trail will be designed to accommodate skiers and grooming equipment.
How the Challenge Works
This two-month charitable giving campaign is completely managed by Whitefish Community Foundation. It processes all donations, designating 100% of your donation dollars to Glacier Nordic or any other non-profits you choose. For each dollar you donate, Whitefish Community Foundation will award an additional percentage match on the first $20,000 we raise. Last year the match was 55%.
The Great Fish Community Challenge runs July 20–September 15, 2017.
